D. Carnegie & Co. - Porter  2010 Vintage

The color is a bit lighter than I expected. It’s a dark, dark, brown and when held up to the light, there is a very deep ruby amber hue. A small bubbly light tan head rests atop the beer, holding for a few minutes and eventually fading to a very thin layer.

The aroma starts off a touch nutty, like yeast esters, followed by a faint roast and mild chocolate.

The taste was a bit of a let down at first. I was expecting something more bold and heavier in the mouth. However, over the length of this beer, the more I drink, the better it tastes. The body is on the lower side of medium. Taste-wise it’s pretty basic, not dull, but not all that complex either. A bit of the roast and chocolate in the front and middle, and the finish is a lingering bitterness with a faint flinty whisp on the back of the palate. 

Overall, I do like this, but I think the two years in the bottle may have been about one year too long. I need to try this again when I find a bottle.

Bottom Line: Worth a try. A pretty classic porter, but it’s not WOWing me.
